At 37-years of age, retirement is nearing for Sidney Crosby, but as of right now, he's rejected the idea on the back of an impressive 2024/25 campaign.
This season, we saw Alex Ovechkin dominate at the age of 40, and while retirement hasn't been confirmed, it's clear that he is nearing the end of his NHL career despite a successful 2024/25 campaign.
We've also seen speculation over the future of a long-time rival in Sidney Crosby, who has turned 37 this off-season, but in his latest comments with
The Athletic, he confirms that retirement isn't anywhere close.
Sidney Crosby Wants to Play and Compete as Long as He Can -- Will it Be in Pittsburgh?
When asked about his future, Crosby looked back on the 2024/25 campaign, one in which he scored 33 goals and 91 points in 80 games played, reaffirming that he's still ready to go for a long time to come.
"I still love it. Still able to compete in a game that's getting faster and faster ultimately I love the game still, and I want to compete for as long as I can."
In years gone by, we've seen players play well into their 40's, and with modern medicine and the way Crosby has taken care of his body over his long, illustrious career, it would be no surprise to see him eyeing up the 2030 Olympic Games as a potential farewell season.
For now though, all we know is that Crosby is still capable of being a 90 point player, even on a struggling Penguins team, and as long as he continues to play at a high level, the Penguins captain will continue to play on for years to come.
