Kyle Dubas Officially Named GM of New Team After Penguins Elimination from the Playoffs
Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas has been chosen to manage Team Canada for the upcoming IIHF men's world championship.
Kyle Dubas has had his hands full with the Penguins this season as he desperately tries to improve a bad situation.
Hopefully for Dubas's sake he is right. If he's lucky, his team will win the upcoming draft lottery as the Penguins currently hold the 7th-best odds.
That being said, even a 1st overall pick won't be enough to save the team right now, especially considering the fact that there is no bona fide superstar talent in this year's draft.
But while Dubas is busy figuring things out for his NHL club, he will be equally busy over the next two months as he has been chosen to be the general manager for Team Canada at the 2025 men's IIHF world championship.
Penguins assistant general manager Jason Spezza will also be a part of Team Canada's leadership group, an unsurprising move considering Spezza has been at Dubas's side since his days with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Hopefully Dubas will have a little more success with Team Canada than he did with the Penguins this year.
After all, it is one thing to be in charge of a disappointing NHL team, but if Canada fails to meet expectations at the tournament, the entire country would be upset with him.
And as we all know, Canadians can be very passionate about their country's top sport, especially on the international stage when national pride becomes a big factor.
Be sure to tune in next month to see how Dubas does in constructing a roster that will hopefully take home the gold medal.
