Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas held a wide-ranging press conference on Monday and discussed his timeline for hiring the next head coach of the club after the departure of Mike Sullivan
He had been on the job since December of 2015; he led the Penguins to consecutive Stanley Cup victories. However, the team has fallen on difficult times and has missed the playoffs in each of the last 3 years.
During general manager Kyle Dubas' press conference yesterday in Pittsburgh, he not only discussed why he dismissed Sullivan but also revealed the timeline that fans can expect when it comes to hiring the franchise's next head coach.
That may be delayed because some of the people - just very quickly we've started to put together a list of the top folks - some of those people are employed either by top AHL teams or they're on NHL staffs as we speak right now. That would be the only delay in it. That will give you a preview of what we're about to undertake.
He also promised not only a thorough search for Pittsburgh's next coach, but also said that coaches at the minor-league level and even those currently based in Europe would be considered.
Pittsburgh's next coach will also be tasked with not only maximizing the remaining time in the careers of some of the Penguins veteran mainstays but also helping the young players take the next steps in their careers.
It's going to be continuing to maximize the prime or the end of careers of some of the players that we have, and it's going to be expeditiously developing some of the young players that have already come onto the roster, that are about to come onto the roster.
