Kyle Dubas Reveals Why He Hired Rookie Head Coach Dan Muse to Lead the Penguins

Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas has released a statement after the team announced the hiring of Dan Muse as the 23rd head coach in team history and the official successor to Mike Sullivan.
Following a thorough search, Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas has decided to hire Dan Muse as the 23rd head coach in team history.
Among the candidates that were considered for the position were former Ottawa Senators head coach DJ Smith, former Edmonton Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft, and Washington Capitals assistant coach Mitch Love.
Muse arrives in Pittsburgh after having served as an assistant coach with the New York Rangers as well as the Nashville Predators; he also coached current Penguins prospect Rutger McGroarty with the U.S. National Team Development Program.
Shortly after the hiring was announced, Dubas released the following statement in which he details why Muse stood out from the other candidates he interviewed.
During this process, we met with many candidates who we felt would have been a fit as the next head coach of the Penguins, but ultimately, Dan Muse stood out as the best choice. What separated Dan was his ability to develop players, win at all levels where he has been a head coach and his consistent success coaching special teams in the NHL. From his success in developing college and junior players, to his impactful work with veteran players during his time in the NHL, Dan has shown a proven ability to connect with players at all stages of their careers and help them to reach their potential.
Muse will be tasked with not only trying to get the most out of the remaining careers of franchise icons Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang, but also to get the Penguins back on track toward the playoffs after having missed for the last 3 years.
