Mike Sullivan's New Coaching Staff With the Rangers Beginning to Take Form
The coaching staff of new New York Rangers head coach Mike Sullivan will begin to take shape soon, with several names being suggested as possibilities to join the club behind the bench.
After a tumultuous season that saw them fail to make the playoffs only a year after winning the President's Trophy and advancing to the Eastern Conference Final, the New York Rangers made a major change in leadership.
General manager Chris Drury dismissed head coach Peter Laviolette, who had been on the job for only two years. It wasn't long before he found Laviolette's official successor behind the Rangers' bench, hiring former Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup-winning coach Mike Sullivan.
In the meantime, several names are being suggested as possibilities to join Sullivan's coaching staff in New York, among them being former Boston Bruins assistant and interim head coach Joe Sacco, along with former Rangers head coach David Quinn.
Couple names I've heard are in the mix for coaching spots under Mike Sullivan with NYR:
Joe Sacco, recently Bruins interim HC, and David Quinn, former NYR HC who was with Sullivan in Pittsburgh last season. Quinn is a candidate for the Penguins coaching spot.
Sacco won't be back with the Bruins after he failed to get them to the postseason after taking over for the terminated Jim Montgomery in November; David Quinn was not only let go by the Rangers so they could hire Gerard Gallant in 2021, but was also let go as head coach of the San Jose Sharks in April of last year.
