The Pittsburgh Penguins were hoping to make a post-season run in 2024/25, but now they've officially clinched another achievement of sorts.
The 2024/25 campaign was a major disappointment for the Pittsburgh Penguins, and with just one regular season game remaining on the season, many fans will now look to the summer and some potential changes for this team.
The biggest would be at the 2025 NHL Draft, where Kyle Dubas has managed to accumulate plenty of assets to build through the draft, and on Sunday, it became official that Pittsburgh have clinched a top-10 draft pick.
With a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Boston Bruins, the Penguins are now three points shy of the New York Rangers, currently sitting 23rd in the NHL, and with just one game left, that means the Penguins can't drop lower than ninth in lottery odds ahead of the 2025 draft.
Sure, some people have looked at the 2025 draft class as lower than 2026 and 2027, but there are still many intriguing names in the top-10, and if the team can have some lottery luck, perhaps names like Porter Martone and Michael Misa could become genuine possibilities.
Whether the Penguins use that pick now for a player of the future or try and flip the pick for even more assets moving forward, it can't be understated how valuable a top-10 pick in the NHL truly is, so while the fans are disappointed with the teams performance this year, it could end up helping them in the long run.
