Marc-Andre Fleury Makes Shocking Statement About Sidney Crosby's Future in Pittsburgh
Marc-Andre Fleury was a long-time teammate of Sidney Crosby in Pittsburgh, but now the retired goaltender has revealed his thoughts on the captain departing.
Sidney Crosby has had one of the greatest careers of any player in NHL history, but with his team missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for three straight years despite his continued brilliance, it's safe to say that even some Penguins fans are wanting to see him in another uniform.
That's something that was brought up to former teammate and recently retired goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, and the veteran shockingly wanted 87 to depart the Penguins to get another shot at the Cup.
"I can't answer for him, but it sounds like I'm wishing for him to leave. Pittsburgh has missed the playoffs for three years in a row, and things aren't looking good for next season. I wish him well in his quest for a Stanley Cup. He's such a winner, a good player."
There's unsurprisingly been rumours connecting Crosby to his fellow Nova Scotia native
Nathan MacKinnon in free agency, but at this point, the long-time Penguins captain has continued to express his desire to remain in Pittsburgh for the rest of his career.
At 37-years of age, that career is grinding towards the end, but with 33 goals and 91 points in 80 games played a season ago, he's showing that he's still one of, if not the best two-way player in the sport, but if he wants to win, it's clear that he needs to leave Pittsburgh.
Ultimately, he may simply be happy to bring in the new generation of Penguins while missing the post-season, but as Fleury states, he's a winner and a competitor, so if they don't win their way into the post-season this year, don't be surprised if we hear more about him potentially leaving.
