JJ Peterka is one of the hottest RFA's in the NHL this summer, and now, no less than five teams are showing series interest in the young Buffalo Sabres star.
At 23-years of age, JJ Peterka has been a revelation for the Buffalo Sabres over the last two seasons, becoming a standout star after being selected in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft.
However, he's a restricted free agent coming into this off-season, and whether it's as a trade target or a potential offer sheet target, there's been significant interest around the league in Peterka.
According to Frank Seravalli, there are many teams involved in serious discussions to land the young star, name dropping the New York Islanders, Chicago Blackhawks, Tampa Bay Lightning, Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers as those teams.
Beyond that, there's definitely interest in Peterka from other squads, but clearly they aren't as intent on pushing for him as these five teams, and with the danger of an offer sheet present, it's likely that the Sabres will engage teams in trade talks around him.
Last season, Peterka put up career highs across the board, notching 27 goals and 68 points in 77 games played, and in a better scenario with more talent around him, the belief in the NHL is that he could be an All-Star caliber player.
As of right now, all signs point to Peterka being on a new roster next season, whether that's as a result of a trade to one of these five teams or another in the NHL, and while it's probably the right move for the Buffalo Sabres, letting go of any star level player may be tough after the backlash from moving the likes of
Sam Reinhart,
Jack Eichel and Ryan O'Reilly amidst their current struggles.
