Today, new photos from Pittsburgh Penguins practice showed an unknown goalie on the ice reminiscent of a fan favorite former starter.
So far this season, the Penguins have seen solid performances from their goalie duo of Jarry and
Arturs Silovs but today a new goalie was seen on the ice.
Unknown Goalie Takes the Ice For the Pittsburgh Penguins
During practice, a new goalie in a blue helmet took the ice and was taking shots reminding many of former Penguins starter Johan Hedberg.
As Seth Rorabaugh mentions, Hedberg is currently the head coach of Leksands IF in the SHL so he was absolutely not the man behind the mask.
Instead, it seems the person taking shots from the Penguins players was former Robert Morris and ECHL goalie Jeff Siwik.
Siwik played two seasons with Robert Morris and then signed with the Idaho Steelheads in the ECHL but retired without appearing in a professional game
Siwik, 33, is local to the area and after being a coach for the Jr. Penguins in the past likely has a relationship with the organization.
While Siwik's identity is now known it remains a mystery why he was needed on the ice for practice.
With Siwik having professional experience it is possible he is one of the Penguins emergency backup goalie options and they are giving him some live reps.
As of now, it is unknown whether or not he will be seen with the Penguins again at some point throughout the year.
