New Development Emerges Regarding Kris Letang's Future with the Penguins

A new development emerged regarding Kris Letang's future with the Pittsburgh Penguins in a new report.
On the surface, trading the veteran defenseman may seem like a logical move as the Penguins look to get younger. However, sources close to the organization have qualified Letang as "unmovable," showing that a trade won't be that easy to pull off.
Between his full no-trade clause, lengthy contract,
declining performances, and complicated health history, no team appears willing to take the risk, even teams who could use a player like Letang, although the player seems to believe he can continue playing for many years.
The president of hockey operations and general manager Kyle Dubas isn't likely to pursue a buyout either, preferring to avoid that route altogether. Instead, the Penguins reportedly hope Letang will accept a reduced role, a potentially delicate transition.
But the main problem is that Pittsburgh's blue line remains weak, and despite his struggles, Letang might still be one of their best options. With
Erik Karlsson also performing under expectations and potential young reinforcements not yet ready, the Penguins are in a tough spot.
Ultimately, the Penguins hope that Dan Muse, their new head coach, will be able to help Letang find his confidence back in a smaller role.
Unless a team surprisingly agrees to take him on the trade market, Letang will finish his career in Pittsburgh.
Last season, the 38-year-old veteran scored 30 points, including nine goals, in 74 games with the Pens, one of the worst point-per-game ratios of his career.
Due to his high work ethic, many experts believe he could be in a position to keep playing longer than most players, despite his extensive injury history. It's hard to say if he'll be able to remain in the NHL after his $6.1M AAV deal ends, in three years.
Stay tuned for updates and details on Letang's future in the NHL.
