Sidney Crosby continues to be the centre of trade speculation, and now Nick Kypreos has dropped a bombshell on the future of the Pittsburgh Penguins captain, revealing a timeline for a potential Crosby trade.
Over the past few months, there have been many rumours about the future of Sidney Crosby in Pittsburgh, with speculation emerging around the 2025 NHL Draft that a trade could be incoming very soon.
That was shut down from many angles, but the rumours simply won't go away, with many around the league believing that Crosby will not play out the entirety of the two-year extension he signed with the team.
Now, insider Nick Kypreos has suggested something similar, although he notes that until the Olympic break during the upcoming campaign, absolutely nothing is going to happen regarding the Penguins captain.
After that? According to Kypreos, anything is on the table, and while it's unclear exactly why the Olympic break would be the time that changes Crosby's mind (other than being potentially recruited by Team Canada teammates), it's now become a period to keep an even closer eye on in Pittsburgh.
As usual, fans are pointing to the Montreal Canadiens and the Colorado Avalanche as likely landing spots for 87, and while he's been loyal to Pittsburgh throughout his entire career, unless he leaves, he likely doesn't have a genuine shot at the Stanley Cup again in his career.
Ultimately, it's still more likely than not that he remains with the only NHL team he's ever known, but if the frustration grows and General Manager Kyle Dubas gets a good enough offer, Kypreos believes that a deal could come together before the trade deadline.
