The Pittsburgh Penguins have officially announced the hiring of former NHL analyst Pierre McGuire, who was an assistant coach and won a Stanley Cup with them in 1992, as a pre-/postgame analyst.
A former Pittsburgh Penguins assistant coach who helped them win the Stanley Cup in 1992 is coming back to the organization, and it's a well-known name.
Pierre McGuire, who is still one of the most polarizing figures in hockey fan circles, has been hired by the Penguins as a pre-post game analyst for at least half of their 82 games in the upcoming year.
The Penguins Radio Network is excited to welcome Pierre McGuire to our broadcast lineup! Pierre will join the legendary Paul Steigerwald and Brian Metzer for pre- and post-game coverage, appearing on 41 games this season as well as select episodes of Penguins Live Weekly.
McGuire befriended former Penguins coach Scotty Bowman, who soon made him an official assignment scout with the team before eventually naming him an assistant coach.
McGuire and Bowman helped the Penguins to a 2nd straight Stanley Cup win in 1992.
At 32, he became the youngest head coach in NHL history when he took over the Hartford Whalers. After being terminated in 1994, he later embarked on a longtime broadcasting and analytical career.
Pierre McGuire recently touched on a potential Sidney Crosby trade
"On this subject, Pierre McGuire, who was on the Sick Podcast yesterday, stated that in his opinion, it would take 'more than
Michael Hage,
David Reinbacher, and a first-round pick' to convince the Penguins to let go of their legendary player."
