The Penguins received some more bad injury news today, as defenseman Jack St. Ivany is expected to miss a minimum of six weeks with a lower-body injury.

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that defenseman Jack St. Ivany will miss six weeks minimum. St. Ivany was injured in the first period on Wednesday against the Buffalo Sabres, where he suffered a lower-body injury after blocking a shot.
He was being evaluated earlier today and didn't practice, but now we have this aforementioned update.

Bryan Rust Will Also Miss a Minimum of 2 Weeks

The problems didn't stop there, as Penguins winger Bryan Rust will also miss the start of the NHL regular season. On Thursday morning, the team announced that Rust would be out at least two weeks with a lower-body injury.
Rust left the practice early on Wednesday morning, but coach Dan Muse didn't have an update at the time before the team left for Buffalo, which was their sixth preseason game, that they ended up winning and extending their streak to four in a row.
Last season, Rust set a career high with 31 goals. His name has appeared in trade speculation since last season, and his no-trade clause came to an end on July 1, but Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas set a «sky-high» price for him.
Penguins winger Noel Acciari played on Wednesday against Buffalo, which was his first preseason action after suffering a core muscle injury in August, so there is some good injury news there, at least for the team.
In terms of Rutger McGroarty, he was also seen around the Penguins' practice facility on Thursday in workout gear, which is another sign he is progressing well.
