Unsurprisingly, this has brought on plenty of excitement for the Penguins roster, but more specifically their two Swedish stars, with 31-year old forward Rickard Rakell expressing his excitement about heading home and taking his teammates with him, as well as getting to play in front of his Grandma.
Just for her to have the chance to see me play, it'll be a lot of fun. That's the area where I grew up playing, and all my friends and people growing up never really had a chance to see me play. It's pretty special.
Erik Karlsson may not be with the team next season as rumours swirl about a summer trade, but if he remains on the squad when they head overseas, he's excited about the chance to show his teammates around his home.
Obviously for us, it's nice because you have a lot of friends and family there. At the same time, it's nice to be able to show your teammates your home country, and maybe put a picture to some of the things you talk about a lot, and they're asking you about.
Way back in 2008, the Penguins played a series in Stockholm, and the captain then was Sidney Crosby, so unsurprisingly, No. 87 is also thrilled about the chance to play on that stage once more.
I know Raks spent time there in the offseason, and Karl's pretty aware of the good spots in Stockholm. So, they'll be great hosts. It's been a while since I've been back, so I'm excited about that. We're with the right guys to show us around, there's no doubt.
With changes expected in the off-season, things could look very different for Pittsburgh when they head back to Stockholm, but regardless of who's on the roster, it's safe to say that this will be a major event for the Penguins and the NHL as they continue to expand their reach in Europe.
