Pittsburgh Penguins forward Rickard Rakell is thrilled to play for Sweden in the 2026 Olympics, which will be the first time he's ever played in the Olympic Games.

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Rickard Rakell was one of two players on the club to be selected for Team Sweden in the Olympics, along with defenseman Erik Karlsson.
For Rakell, it's his first go-around in Olympic competition, and he can't wait to get things started, saying it's the next best thing to competing for the Stanley Cup.
This is a dream come true for me. I'm going to say probably once in a lifetime. This is my chance. You have so many memories of previous tournaments, watching this. Apart from the Stanley Cup, it doesn't get better than this. - Rickard Rakell
Last month, Rakell gushed with excitement over the chance to play in the Olympics for the first time.
Obviously, super excited. It’s a dream come true for me to get the chance to play in the Olympics and represent my country. ... I always thought it was a possibility. Anything can happen. Having a good year last year and still being able to go in the 4 Nations and show what I can do there. I’m excited to go there and do my best. - Rickard Rakell

So far this year with the Penguins, Rakell has 24 points (10G, 14A) in 35 games played.

Rickard Rakell Remains With The Penguins Despite Multiple Trade Rumours

Rakell was one of the most talked-about players in NHL trade rumours during the summer, along with his teammates Karlsson and Bryan Rust.
But Penguins GM Kyle Dubas wasn't able to facilitate a trade for any of them, and they all entered the year still wearing a Pittsburgh sweater.
Right now, the Penguins are having a much better year than anyone would have expected, and they may hold off on shedding any big pieces as they try and chase their first playoff appearance since 2022.
