Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas has made a major announcement about the future of his club's goaltending, which includes a very crowded crease.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have once again failed to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and the team has broken for the summer earlier than they were hoping last fall when they gathered for Training Camp.
One question on the minds of Penguins fans is what their goaltending will look like next year. Both
Alex Nedeljkovic and
Tristan Jarry remain under contract, while rookie
Joel Blomqvist got valuable experience this year.
Additionally, the Penguins have highly-touted rookie
Sergei Murashov in the system hoping to make a name for himself at Training Camp.
According to Dubas, the Penguins will have stiff competition in the crease starting in the fall, and he's informed both Nedeljkovic and Jarry that they'll not only be competing with one another for the starting role but also with Blomqvist and Murashov.
The Penguins waived Jarry after he struggled early in the year
Earlier in the year, the Penguins decided to waive Jarry after he got off to a slow start; he went down to the AHL and worked on his game before eventually making his way back to Pittsburgh.
Jarry recently said that being waived was a new experience, but that he has every intention of staying with the Penguins.
Going on waivers, it was something upsetting for me. It wasn't something that I ever expected when I signed my contract and it was something that obviously happened and I had to build from it. I had to grow. I had to be a better goalie.
I have to use those experiences and use those lessons to my advantage. It's something that I didn't expect, Its something I have to learn from and something I have to be better for, obviously starting the (2025-26) season will be a huge key for me.
