Penguins Linked to All-Star Goalie in Off-Season Trade by Top Insider
The Pittsburgh Penguins goaltending was a major struggle this last season, and now they've been linked to Anaheim Ducks star John Gibson by a top insider.
The Pittsburgh Penguins missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the third straight year in 2024/25, and while they struggled overall, it was the poor goaltending that held them back from any chance at making a post-season run.
Between Tristan Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic, the Penguins ranked 30th in the NHL in GAA this season, allowing a combined 3.50 mark, and while the team may not be looking to immediately jump back into contention, an improvement in net could go a long way to doing that.
Now, Daily Faceoff have ranked five landing spots for Anaheim Ducks star goaltender John Gibson, with the Penguins noted as a potential landing spot for the former All-Star.
Gibson is a Pittsburgh native, so a trade there would represent a homecoming. Even if the Pens shouldn't be attempting anything resembling competitive hockey right now, it's difficult for them to bottom out while Sidney Crosby is still around, so a Gibson trade could help remedy a major area of weakness.

This is a move that some Penguins fans have been chasing for quite some time, and if Kyle Dubas wants this team to be competitive next year, it could be the deal that gets them there.
Ultimately, the Penguins have some very talented young goaltenders in the organization, but right now none are ready to take on the role of a No. 1 goaltender in the NHL, and if Dubas can find a way to move Tristan Jarry, it may be a move that is very possible.
