Tonight, a new report from Joe Yerdon of Bleacher Report has connected the Pittsburgh Penguins and Olympic gold medalist Vincent Trocheck to one another.

The Pittsburgh Penguins remain in a playoff race hoping to shock the hockey world and sneak in to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
With injuries and suspensions taking out key players Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin many were hoping to see the Penguins make a big move at the trade deadline to keep the team's playoff chances high.
Instead, Dubas made smaller moves and looked toward the future and now NHL analyst Joe Yerdon believes Dubas will be aggressive this summer.

Yerdon sees the potential addition of Trocheck as a big upgrade to their center depth especially if Evgeni Malkin decides to retire or leave in free agency.
Adding Trocheck to the Penguins' lineup next season, with at least Crosby and Kindel there and perhaps Malkin returning, would give them the kind of depth up the middle that would carry their playoff run this season into the next. Even more important, if Malkin retires or somehow ends up going elsewhere at age 40, acquiring Trocheck would soften that blow immensely. - Joe Yerdon

Many expected Trocheck to be traded at the deadline but a deal never materialized which could work out in the Penguins favor long-term.
Trocheck, 32, will be heading into the 5th year of a 7-year deal making a trade more palatable and potentially cheaper to get done.
In addition, being able to wait and figure out the Malkin situation first will provide better clarity on what Trocheck's role in Pittsburgh would be.
As more information is provided on the Penguins' pursuit of Vincent Trocheck we will pass along those details to you.
