The Penguins have lost young forward Jimmy Huntington on the opening day of free agency, who has decided to sign a 1-year, 2-way contract with the San Jose Sharks.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have lost a young forward who is a former Calder Cup champion on the opening day of the NHL's free agency period.
Forward Jimmy Huntington has signed a 1-year, 2-way contract with the San Jose Sharks, bringing an end to what was a brief tenure with the Penguins organization.
Huntington, who was signed last year by the Penguins, missed most of the season because of an injury. He only appeared in four games with the AHL affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and had 4 points (1G, 3A).
He didn't make the Penguins out of training camp and, after being waived, was assigned to the AHL. He scored the 1st goal of the season for the AHL's Penguins but was eventually lost for the rest of the year due to an undisclosed injury.
The year prior, he helped the Hershey Bears win the Calder Cup after scoring 33 points (16G, 17A) during the regular season. He then added 13 points (5G, 9A) during the postseason.
Huntington, who was never drafted into the NHL, has played in the AHL for the Syracuse Crunch, Milwaukee Admirals, Hershey Bears, and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, and has 117 points (44G, 73A).
Before his time in the AHL, he played a handful of years for the Laval-Montréal Rousseau Royal of the QMAAA along with the QMJHL's Victoriaville Tigres. He then spent time with the 17 ECHL games with the Orlando Solar Bears, scoring 12 points (5G, 7A).
