The Pittsburgh Penguins must take a close look at superstar Jason Robertson as he hits the trade block.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have many needs to address in the offseason. To meet them, President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Kyle Dubas will have a lot of work to do.
With all the draft picks and trade assets in the organization, the team is in a position to make significant acquisitions.
Over the past few days, multiple sources stated that Jason Robertson could be available on the trade market. If that's the case, the Penguins must show interest.
Following another disappointing Western Conference Finals against the Edmonton Oilers, the Stars, who don't have much available cap space, could be looking to part ways with Robertson. With only one season left on his contract, his next deal is likely much bigger than his current $7,750,000 yearly salary, and Mikko Rantanen locked up long-term, the Stars could explore their options on the trade market for Robertson.
The 25-year-old forward would be a very interesting addition for the Penguins. Although many organizations are poised to make offers, Dubas is under a lot of pressure, which could push him to make a desperate move to target a game-changing player such as Robertson.
However, Pens fans may not like what it costs to acquire him. Indeed, Dubas would surely need to part ways with key players as well as high draft picks.
The Penguins' captain Sidney Crosby has been involved in plenty of trade rumors, and a deal involving him and Robertson could make sense for both teams, if Crosby agrees to be dealt to Dallas.
Robertson scored 80 points, including 35 goals, last season with the Stars. He added six points in 11 playoff games after an injury forced him to miss a few games.
Dubas will have to be aggressive to get Robertson if he truly wants him. Updates will follow.
