The Penguins have officially acquired goaltender Arturs Silovs in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks, only days after trading Alex Nedeljkovic to the Sharks.
He also has Stanley Cup Playoff experience, stepping in for the injured Thatcher Demko and struggling Casey DeSmith in 2024. He and the Canucks advanced to Game 7 of the WCSF, where they were eventually beaten by the divisional foe Edmonton Oilers.
He has a career NHL record of 8-8-2 with a 3.13 GAA and .898 SV%. In the AHL, Silovs has gone 59-35-13 with a 2.58 GAA, a .906 SV% and has 9 shutouts.
Silovs saw his chances for an increased role with the Canucks diminish in recent weeks with the contract extension of Demko, combined with the recent extension for Kevin Lankinen, who was acquired last year and exceeded expectations in the wake of Demko's injury.
The Penguins now have an even more crowded crease with Tristan Jarry and Silovs, along with prospects Joel Blomqvist and Sergei Murashov.
The acquisition of Silovs means there will be competition in Penguins camp for the starting job, while Blomqvist and Murashov will also want to prove their mettle.
