Penguins Officially Have Prime Opportunity to Add Star Winger for Sidney Crosby

After missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the third straight season, the Pittsburgh Penguins have plenty of salary cap space heading into the off-season, and they may be looking to use it to land some star level players.

Those star level players would be best alongside Sidney Crosby, who is still playing at an elite level despite being 37-years of age, with many looking around at the landscape of the NHL to see which stars would suit his wing the best.

Now, one has been identified after the Winnipeg Jets crashed out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, with Nikolaj Ehlers potentially on the way out following a stellar start to his career in Winnipeg, with some fans regretting that this may be the end.

As for Pittsburgh, they'd be wise to push to land Ehlers, who has 49 goals over the last two years while tallying 63 and 61 points in that time, and at 29-years of age, he may be worth a 4-5 year deal for the Penguins to play alongside Crosby, who knows how to get the best out of the wingers alongside him.

There's still time for things to change and the Penguins to pursue other big names in free agency however, as the likes of Mitch Marner, Sam Bennett and Brock Boeser could all be potential options, but if Ehlers is open to leaving the Jets following a 10-year start to his career there, don't be surprised to see Kyle Dubas make a push to land the veteran.
