Macklin Celebrini Shares Special Moment with Idol Sidney Crosby Following Team Canada Thrashing
Playing for the Canadian squad at the IIHF World Championships, Macklin Celebrini got to celebrate with his boyhood idol, Sidney Crosby, following a blowout victory.
While the Stanley Cup Playoffs continue, a pair of teams that didn't qualify include the Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks.
That doesn't mean that every player on those respective rosters was ready to stop playing competitive hockey before breaking for the summer, though.
Sidney Crosby of the Penguins and Macklin Celebrini of the Sharks traveled overseas to join the Canadian squad in the ongoing 2025 IIHF World Championship.
Celebrini, who idolized Crosby while growing up, is playing on his line despite being 19 years his junior. Crosby had 4 points (2G, 2A) as part of Canada's 7-0 win over Slovakia, while Celebrini himself had 3 points (1G, 2A).
When asked about how it feels for him to not only be playing with Crosby but also skating on his line, Celebrini was naturally excited.
I think I was just super excited. I got to know him a little bit throughout the years, and to get to play on a line with him and have him here, it's pretty special.
Crosby couldn't say enough about the the atmosphere inside the venue, which included many Canadian supporters.
It's awesome, the atmosphere is awesome. They were like this all night, no matter what the score was. It's a fun environment to play in.
When asked about the best piece of advice that he received from Crosby, Celebrini joked about Crosby's habit of changing his shirt between periods.
I think just the fact that he changes his shirt between periods.
With a laugh, Celebrini then said the opportunity to learn from Crosby and ask questions has been a great experience.
It's been great just learning from him, asking questions and in different situations just relaying stuff off him.
