Penguins Sign Former First-Round Pick & 400-Game Veteran to PTO
On his way to Pittsburgh with a professional tryout agreement (PTO) is veteran Robby Fabbri, who has played 442 career games and won a Stanley Cup.
Multiple NHL players have gotten the chance to try and compete for a contract with what's known as a
professional tryout agreement (PTO), and the Pittsburgh Penguins have become the latest team to offer one.
On his way to Pittsburgh to try and compete for a roster spot and a contract is Robby Fabbri, who has played 442 career NHL games and has already won a Stanley Cup with the St. Louis Blues in 2019.
Fabbri has proven to be an effective player when healthy, but he's undergone multiple lower body surgeries, and torn his ACL 3 different times (twice in one knee). His ability to stay healthy has proven to be his biggest deterrent, and the Penguins are proceeding with caution with that knowledge.
Because of his multitude of injuries, Fabbri has also played over 60 games in a single year only 3 times in his career.
He has 216 points (106G, 110A) in 442 career games with the Blues, Detroit Red Wings, and Anaheim Ducks.
Multiple NHL players have signed PTOs
Fabbri isn't the 1st player to agree to a PTO with a new club in training camp.
Many interesting names will be trying to earn themselves a contract for 2025-26, including Kevin Lebanc with the Carolina Hurricanes, Matt Grzelcyk with the Chicago Blackhawks,
Jack Johnson with the Minnesota Wild,
Conor Sheary with the New York Rangers,
Milan Lucic with the St. Louis Blues, and Ryan McGregor with the Utah Mammoth.
