Owen Pickering is a great talent of the future for the Penguins, but after attending a recent even, he's shown great character away from the ice as well.
Owen Pickering was a first-round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2022, and while his development hasn't been quick, he's shaping up as a key piece of this organization on the blue line for many years to come.
The 21-year old got a taste of NHL action last season, appearing in 25 games with the Penguins while posting a goal and 3 points in that time, with many believing that he could be a full-time NHLer as early as next season.
Now, a recent post from TSN personality Jesse Pollock has shown the character of Pickering away from the ice, as he has posted a photo of the two at an event in Winnipeg together.
The event was to support 'Gaining Resources Our Way' or GROW, a company in Winnipeg that is a life skills program for young adults with social and intellectual disabilities, and for a 21-year old to be supporting such a program in his home province just goes to show what character he has.
It's unclear whether he was asked by the Penguins to attend or he wanted to simply give back to his community, but regardless, after a long, gruelling first professional season of his career, no one would blame him for being at a beach somewhere relaxing.
Character doesn't always translate to success at the NHL level, but when a player has talent along with that character, it often serves them well, so it's safe to say that as long as Pickering is playing professional hockey, he'll have plenty of fans in the locker room given the high caliber nature of his character.
