This year's class of free agents was relatively weak, with few big-name players available to significantly bolster teams that need help.
Furthermore, many of the biggest names ended up re-signing with their teams, such as Canucks forward
Brock Boeser.
The team continues to make these smaller moves today as Dubas looks to find a diamond in the rough that could accelerate his team's rebuild.
Today, the organization added former Canucks prospect Aiden McDonough, who served as the captain for the Northeastern University Huskies in the NCAA before turning pro.
He played four seasons with the Huskies putting up 66 goals and 124 points in 124 games.
McDonough has also appeared in six games at the NHL level with the Canucks, scoring a single goal.
The 25-year-old doesn't figure to be a game changer for the Penguins, but he does add some experience to the AHL squad and could be a potential call up should he earn a two-way contract in the future.
Perhaps more importantly, his presence in the AHL lineup will also make it easier for Dubas to call up some of his top prospects throughout the course of next season without leaving holes in the lineup with Wilkes/Barre.
