The Masterton Award is one of the most important in the NHL, and this season, the Pittsburgh Penguins have nominated forward Boko Imama.

Each and every year, the Masterton Award is one of the most coveted awards in the NHL, annually given to the player that 'player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication.
The last three winners have been Connor Ingram, Kris Letang and Carey Price, and every season, all 32 teams put forward a nomination and their reasoning behind it, with just one winner chosen to receive the coveted award.
For Pittsburgh this season, it's Boko Imama, and when he was told about his nomination, it's safe to say that he was just as surprised as he is happy to be recognized.
«They asked me the same question, like, you are a nominee for an NHL award?! I was like, yes. (Then they) asked again and asked again, and I had to kept on confirming that, yes, this was going on. So, they're very excited as well, very honored, and it's just fun. For me, I'm just living out my dream, and to be able to have this type of recognition is definitely nice.
To his teammates though, it shouldn't be a surprise, as fellow Quebec native Kris Letang was full of nothing but praise for Imama when his nomination was revealed.
«First of all, I don't think you can find a more positive person. Every single day, he addresses every single one of his teammates. In the morning, he comes in with an attitude to get better and work.

And obviously, we all know how hard his job is, to have to go out there and face the music every single time. He wants to be there for his teammates. What he does on the ice is just incredible. The attitude that he has every single day coming to the rink, it's contagious around the room.»

Other Masterton Award nominees this year include John Tavares, Marc-Andre Fleury, Alex Ovechkin and so many other deserving nominees, so while Imama may not come away with the award, to be nominated is already an incredible and well deserved honour.
