Pittsburgh Penguins make unexpected goalie addition upon arrival in Sweden
The Penguins have landed in Sweden, and upon arrival have announced that fellow Swedish goalie Filip Larsson has joined them as the third stringer.
The Penguins have added a third-string goalie for the trip
Swedish goalie Filip Larsson has joined the Penguins as the team's third goalie as they travel overseas, with
Tristan Jarry still recovering. This is more of an insurance policy in case anything happens to
Arturs Silovs or
Sergei Murashov.
The Penguins had an overnight flight from Pittsburgh that took about seven and a half hours to get to Stockholm. They immediately got to the ice after arrival to hold practices at the Avicii Arena training facility.
Each player had travel kits with blankets and pillows to ensure that the flight was comfortable, since the Penguins have two important games to play.
The team had previously ventured to Prague and Tokyo, and this year follows the 2024 event in Helsinki, featuring the Florida Panthers and Dallas Stars.
The Sweden stop provides a welcome return to homeland action for numerous players, such as Pittsburgh's Erik Karlsson and Nashville's Filip Forsberg. These are two of the most talented Swedish stars of the current era.
Karlsson has won the Norris Trophy an impressive three times and has scored 12 points so far in 17 games with the Penguins. Forsberg has scored 14 points this season with Nashville.
It's a special week for hockey fans in Sweden, and it's definitely another chapter in the international history book for the Penguins.
