Proposed 4-Player Blockbuster Between Penguins and Red Wings Sparks Major Debate

Erik Karlsson, Rickard Rakell and Bryan Rust have been featured heavily in Penguins trade rumours this off-season, and unsurprisingly, there are plenty of teams out there that could be interested in the veterans.

Now, Woodward Sports Network have proposed a surprise four-player deal that involves two Penguins veterans, proposing a deal with the Detroit Red Wings that would look like this.

On paper, this deal would be a win for the Penguins, as they would get a potential star of the future to mold around Sidney Crosby in Danielson, and while some Pens fans think it would be an overpay, the clear reaction in the comments is that the Red Wings would say no to this deal.

There's a great chance that moving Karlsson and Rust individually would get them a much better return than this, and given where the Red Wings are, they're much better off using their assets on a deal that gets them a much higher caliber of player in return.

Ultimately, this trade wouldn't be perfect for either team, and is an example of just the type of content that pages need to push at this time of year in the NHL calendar to keep things fresh and interesting, but at the end of the day, it's a deal that's not perfect for either team, but especially Detroit.
