For the second night in a row the Pittsburgh Penguins squandered away a multi-goal lead deep into a game this time against the Utah Mammoth.

After last night's fiasco defenseman Erik Karlsson addressed the media and called the collapse unacceptable.
Despite their best efforts the Penguins once again came out flat in the third period throwing away a three nothing lead heading into the third period losing this time in overtime 5-4.
After the game, captain Sidney Crosby spoke to the media and tried to explain what has gone wrong for the Penguins during this stretch.

Sidney Crosby explains what has gone wrong during the Penguins' recent string of third period collapses

During his post game press conference, Crosby was asked why this keeps happening and how the team plans to stop the third period problems.
We've done enough to win games and just haven't closed it out. We just need some plays that are going to do that. Those can be a lot of different things. But we got to get through a game here where we have a lead and close it out.
This statement from Crosby doesn't give that clear of a picture as to what has happened but does provide some relief that the Penguins are not repeating the same mistakes but instead suffering from new issues each night.
With the loss, the Penguins are dangerously close to falling out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with several teams on their heels.
The Penguins next opportunity to get back on track will come against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday which could feature a lot of emotion after the recent massive trade between the two teams.
