Pittsburgh Penguins captain and future Hall of Famer Sidney Crosby is eying a major milestone ahead of the final home game of the year at PPG Paints Arena.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have just 2 games remaining before they break for the summer, having once again missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
It's the 3rd straight year of having failed to qualify for the postseason, marking the longest drought of captain and franchise icon Sidney Crosby's career.
If he manages to score a goal or register an assist in either of the remaining pair of games, it would give Crosby his 3rd straight year of scoring no less than 90 points.
What matters is just finishing strong. It's been a difficult situation. We've had our backs against the wall for a while. We probably had to win out to give ourselves a chance, but we've done a pretty good job of trying to make the best of it, playing hard every night and staying responsible to one another.
Crosby has 89 points (32G, 57A) in 78 games. Before this year began, he agreed to sign a contract extension for another 2 years with his usual AAV (average annual value) of $8.7 million.
The Penguins host the Boston Bruins on Sunday afternoon before closing out the year against Alex Ovechkin and the divisional foe Washington Capitals on Thursday night.
