Sidney Crosby May Pass Steve Yzerman, Mark Messier, and More in Key NHL Statistic This Season

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has accomplished just about everything that there is to accomplish for an NHL player, not to mention his multiple accolades playing internationally for Canada.

Crosby, who is the top scorer in NHL history among active players with 1,687 points (625G, 1,062A), also has the chance to set another record this year.

He has scored 437 goals at even strength, and is only 3 away from passing Steve Yzerman's record of 440 even strength goals, 11 away from Phil Esposito's record of 448, and 15 away from Mark Messier's record of 452.

In February 2024, Crosby became Pittsburgh's all-time leader in even strength goals.

Crosby is a 1st ballot Hall of Famer when his career ends, and his No. 87 sweater number will forever be retired by the Penguins.

Nobody is more aware than Crosby himself about the chances of competing for a playoff spot this year, which aren't good.

Still, Crosby committed to play for the Penguins for another 2 years, inking a contract before the start of last season with his traditional AAV (average annual value) of $8.7 million.

The Penguins aren't expected to come close to competing for the Stanley Cup any time soon, much less a postseason spot.

Because of this, Crosby has found himself involved heavily in trade rumors despite his insistence that he's not looking to relocate at this point in his career.
