Sidney Crosby surpasses Mario Lemieux for the most career points in Pittsburgh Penguins history

Over the last several weeks, Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has been chasing history as he has been approaching Mario Lemieux's all-time points record of 1,723.

Crosby came into tonight's game against the Montreal Canadiens needing just two points to pass Lemieux and take his place as the leading scorer in franchise history.

Heading into the game fans were hoping to potentially see Crosby break the record against his hometown team to further cement the moment as an all-time record breaking point to remember.

Just halfway through the first period, Crosby has tallied those two points and achieved history.

Eight minutes into tonight's contest Crosby buried a goal on a tip which game him tie for the all-time record.

Just five minutes later, Crosby recorded a power play assist on a Rickard Rakell goal giving him the all-time points record.

This is a massive accomplishment for Crosby who is considered by many the best player in franchise history and now has the point record to prove it.

This record also serves as another piece to a first ballot Hall of Fame resume for Crosby.

Now, Crosby will look to chase down Steve Yzerman on the all-time scoring list who sits at 1755 points around 30 ahead of Crosby currently which is very attainable by the end of the 2025-26 season.

With the goal from Crosby the Penguins now lead 2-1 as the game nears the end of the first period.
