Team Canada GM Doug Armstrong, who naturally included Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby on the roster for the Olympics, praised his leadership skills.

NHL players are going back to the Olympics for the 1st time since 2014 when Canada repeated as gold medal winners over the Americans at Sochi.
Understandably, Canada GM Doug Armstrong has included Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby on the roster.
Not only is Crosby continuing to play at a high level at 38, but his leadership skills make him an invaluable member of the team that will once again be trying to capture Olympic gold honors.
Armstrong touted Crosby's leadership both on and off the ice and how it rubs off on the other players.
Sid, he leads by example. His practice habits are exemplary. His preparation is second to none. I think that just rubs off on the players. Not being in the room, I know he's doing it. I don't know exactly what he's doing as far as his leadership, but he pulls people together. But it's also done by his relentless commitment to excellence. I think that gets everyone's attention and makes everyone want to make sure they're doing the best they can do to keep up with Sid.

Armstrong also described Crosby as the "pillar" for Canada.
He's been the pillar of our group for a long time. We would love to do the best we can do to continue his championship-caliber play and gold medal winning at the Olympics.

Canadian athletes will be gathering for their orientation camp in late August in Calgary.

Sidney Crosby has 2 years left on his contract

Crosby, who is under contract for another 2 years with the Penguins, has committed himself to the franchise that has almost no chance at the playoffs this year.
Many are wondering if Crosby will ask for a trade so that he can chase the Stanley Cup one more time in his career, especially after what will likely be longtime teammate Evgeni Malkin's final year in the NHL.
