NHL analyst Gord Miller shares a story of a visit Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby made to a children's hospital that still causes him to become emotional.

After winning the Stanley Cup, each NHL player is entitled to have one personal day with the trophy, and it has made appearances all over the world at all kinds of events and countless parties.
But some other players choose instead to pay it forward to some of the most vulnerable in the community, and Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was no exception.

A Children's Hospital Visit That Showed Crosby's True Character

NHL analyst Gord Miller recounted a story of when Crosby not only visited a children's hospital with the Stanley Cup, but also took it to a nearby veteran's hospital.
They won the Cup in '16, so he's got the Stanley Cup and we go to a children's hospital, which is pretty emotional. We're done there and Sid said, 'Where else can we go?' I said there's a veterans hospital that I went to once right around the corner, so we called over there and went over there, and they've got everyone in the main meeting room.

Someone said, 'Too bad Joe's not here, Joe would have loved this.'

Miller then revealed that the person in question was a blind, bedridden Korean War veteran who told Crosby that his favorite team was the Montreal Canadiens and that Maurice "Rocket" Richard was his favorite player, and that Crosby traced Joe's finger across Richard's engraved name on the Cup.

Why This Stanley Cup Memory Resonates Beyond Hockey

Not only was Crosby's gesture an act of complete kindness, but it's also a testament to his character.
Rather than partying with the Stanley Cup like he could have, Crosby instead helped the community feel like part of the celebration.
