The Pittsburgh Penguins made a surprising trade on Wednesday, and after being attacked by fans, a top Insider has now called out the ridiculous move, making a very bold statement about the return this team got for Michael Bunting.
The return for Bunting? A 27-year old Thomas Novak and a 33-year old Luke Schenn, with many fans calling out the team for a trade that, simply put, made very little sense for either party.
It's not just fans calling out the team for the deal however, as top NHL Insider Frank Seravalli has now taken a swipe at Kyle Dubas and the Penguins front office, calling it one of the dumbest hockey trades of the century.
"on the surface, this is arguably the dumbest hockey trade that's been executed in the last 25 years. These 2 teams that are so far out of it shouldn't even be allowed to call each other (at deadline). I'm not even kidding."
When the trade was announced, many were waiting for the other shoe to drop on the return, with Schenn and Novak seeming to be very confusing pieces to get back, but ultimately, it appears as though the team see both players as pieces that can help them get back into contention.
Kyle Dubas has been under fire almost from the moment he arrived in Pittsburgh, and this trade certainly won't help his standings with the fans, and with the team not looking to deal Rickard Rakell (or asking a ridiculous amount in return) ahead of the deadline, things are getting very confusing in Pittsburgh for fans and insiders alike.
