This past summer, the Pittsburgh Penguins traded veteran Reilly Smith to the division rival New York Rangers, and in exchange they landed a 2027 second-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick.
Now, the veteran forward has been traded again, as it was announced on Thursday that he has been acquired by another of his former teams in the Vegas Golden Knights, the team he won a Stanley Cup with in 2023.
In exchange for Smith, the Rangers will be receiving a third-round pick from the San Jose Sharks this season as well as prospect
Brendan Brisson, a former first-round pick of the Golden Knights, a 23-year old that has a solid 19 points in 45 AHL games this season.
This season, the 33-year old has posted 10 goals and 29 points in 58 games played with New York, and after being held out of the lineup, he's now officially on the move once again, adding great depth to an already stacked Golden Knights lineup.
While Smith has excelled everywhere he's been in the NHL thus far, he has been the perfect trade deadline acquisition for several teams in the past, and with a $5 million salary cap hit that comes off the board at the end of the 2024/25 season, he'll be a great upgrade in the middle-six for the Golden Knights before he once again hits free agency in the summer of 2025.
