Top Penguins Insider Josh Yohe Confirms One Single Frontrunner for Head Coaching Job
The Pittsburgh Penguins are one of many NHL clubs looking for their next head coach, and it appears as though a candidate is standing out from the rest.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are looking for their next head coach, as general manager Kyle Dubas made the decision weeks ago that Mike Sullivan would not be coming back after nearly 10 full years on the job.
Sullivan had been in his position as Penguins coach since December of 2015, and led the team to consecutive Stanley Cup wins. He also helped keep them in contention for the next several seasons, but they've missed the playoffs now for the last 3 years running.
While Sullivan has already gotten new employment with the New York Rangers, the search continues for Dubas and the Penguins.
As he said, Dubas is considering coaches from the NHL, AHL and other leagues around the world. Mitch Love, an assistant with the Washington Capitals, is a front-runner for the job. Others are in contention.
Will it be current Capitals assistant Mitch Love coming to Pittsburgh? Penguins fans will find out before long. He's been with Washington for the last 2 years as part of head coach Spencer Carbery's staff, and enjoyed a successful coaching career with the AHL's Calgary Hitmen prior to that.
No matter what, we will be seeing one of the most drastic changes in the modern era of the Penguins.
