Tristan Jarry had a terrible showing in 2024/25, and while many expect him to be moved this off-season, that may not be the case after all.

The 2024/25 season was a major disappointment overall for the Pittsburgh Penguins, but in net, it's hard to put into words just how bad the duo of Tristan Jarry and Alex Nedeljkovic were for much of the campaign.
That has led to plenty of speculation about the upcoming summer, with many believing that either a buyout or a trade of one, if not both goaltenders could be a genuine possibility.
That is only exaggerated by the fact that both Joel Blomqvist and Sergei Murashov thrived in the AHL this past season, but according to Josh Yohe, the Penguins may not see either as ready yet.
According to the Penguins top insider, this could result in the team bringing Jarry back in the summer, although it we may see Nedeljkovic moved as the team were not impressed with his play either.
«There is a strong possibility that Tristan Jarry will be between the pipes when the 2025-26 season begins on Oct. 7. That's a wild turn of events from January, but here we are.

The Penguins weren't any more impressed with Alex Nedeljkovic's season than they were with Jarry's. They don't think Joel Blomqvist is ready to be an everyday NHL goaltender just yet. And the organization is very excited about Sergei Murashov's potential, there's a concern about rushing him to the NHL. I don't imagine we'll see him make his NHL debut until later next season.

Jarry was pretty good late in the regular season, after his second stint in the AHL. He produced above league-average numbers behind a very poor defensive team. He's still under contract for three more years.

The Penguins don't want to spend more money on goaltending this summer.»
Sure, both Blomqvist and Murashov have talent, but the team don't want to rush either into starting roles in the NHL, and with the possibility that Jarry turns his play around and becomes either an intriguing trade piece or a bridge to get to them, this isn't the worst idea for Pittsburgh.
Ultimately, there's some big decisions to be made in the summer for GM Kyle Dubas around this goaltending group, and while there's plenty of risk too, if he plays it well, the team could be set in between the pipes for a long time to come.
