Two Penguins Top Prospects to Make Team Canada WJC Summer Showcase Debut

The Pittsburgh Penguins prospect group is showing more and more promise the longer Kyle Dubas runs the organization, and now, two of those prospects have the chance to make an impact on a massive stage.

After being announced for the Team Canada World Juniors Summer Showcase, both Ben Kindel and Harrison Brunicke will now get another opportunity, as they're set to feature in a key game.

According to The Athletic's Scott Wheeler, both Penguins prospects will play in a Red vs. White exhibition matchup for Team Canada, in a battle that could go a long way to giving both a spot at the 2026 World Juniors.

In the game, Kindel will feature on a second like with Michael Hage and Cole Reschny, while Brunicke will feature in the top pairing alongside No. 1 overall pick Matthew Schaefer, showing that the coaching staff are ready to put both in positions to succeed ahead of the World Juniors.

Both are locked in very tight battles to find their way onto that roster, with wingers such as Reschny, Martone, McKenna, Spence, Carbonneau, Ritchie and others competing for Kindel's role, while Brunicke has a fairly clear path to the team, battling it out with Mews, Gill and Danford for a spot on the right side of the defense.

Ultimately, this matchup could be key for both to solidify their roles with Team Canada, and whether they make it or not, Penguins fans should be incredibly excited about what a positive showing for both could do for their futures in Pittsburgh.
