Unexpected Pittsburgh Penguins Forward Makes History in His Debut With the Team
With the NHL season officially underway Pittsburgh Penguins forward Justin Brazeau has already entered the franchise history books.
As the puck dropped tonight, the Penguins superstar trio of Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby, and Kris Letang broke a North American sports record.
Now, with the game completed, another record has been matched but this time it was a franchise record that has been tied by new forward Justin Brazeau.
Pittsburgh Penguins Forward Justin Brazeau Ties a Franchise Record
Tonight, Justin Brazeau was a standout for the Penguins in their 3-0 win over the New York Rangers.
Brazeau opened the scoring for the Penguins late in the first period of the game.
He then followed up his first goal with another tally on an empty net to seal the win for the Penguins.
With the second goal, Brazeau officially tied a record as the 5th player in franchise history to have multiple goals in his first game with the team.
Brazeau joins Jake Guentzel, Rob Brown, John Chabot and Bobby Simpson who also accomplished this feat in their first game.
Brazeau had 95 games of NHL experience heading into this season but has yet to be a consistent contributor offensively.
While Brazeau was not initially pegged as a major upgrade for the Penguins it seems he is looking to become a key piece of the present and the future in Pittsburgh.
So far in Pittsburgh he is off to an electric start and could be a key player for a Penguins team looking to outperform expectations and challenge for a playoff spot.
