Arturs Silovs was a big goaltending pickup for the Pittsburgh Penguins this off-season, but that doesn't mean they've given up on their other young net minders.
The Pittsburgh Penguins had major goaltending issues a season ago, and after trading Alex Nedeljkovic early in the off-season, they made a move to acquire young netminder Arturs Silovs from the Vancouver Canucks.
The 24-year old was just named the Calder Cup Playoffs MVP for the Abbotsford Canucks, but with only Tristan Jarry ahead of him in the Penguins depth chart, it appears he'll get a significant chance at playing time in 2025/26 at the NHL level.
However, that's raised questions over the Penguins future in net, as many had pencilled in Sergei Murashov and Joel Blomqvist as the players to take that role in the coming years before the Silovs acquisiton.
Now, that's a topic that's been addressed by top Insider Josh Yohe, who reveals that nothing has changed with the Penguins regarding Murashov, Blomqvist or even recent draft pick Gabriel D'Aigle, with the team simply seeing the Silovs deal as a 'no-brainer'.
Simply put, it would be a surprise if Murashov made the Penguins roster out of training camp this season, with Silovs likely to take the role next season, but with the team seeing Murashov as having the highest ceiling, they'll be patient with his development.
Ultimately, the Silovs deal was just one that was too good to pass up, as the team needed a backup with good potential behind Tristan Jarry for next season, but with so much young talent coming, there will be a major fight in the Penguins organization in the next few years.
