Bowen Byram's future is up in the air in Buffalo, and now, Kyle Dubas and the Penguins must act to land the former No. 4 overall pick.
The Pittsburgh Penguins should be focused on adding some elite young talent for the future this off-season, and with the No. 11 and potentially No. 12 overall pick (depending on a trade decision from the New York Rangers), they may have the resources to add more than one.
While it's more likely than not that they'll use their pick, the team have plenty more in the coming years, with some encouraging them to use those assets to land a young, NHL ready player than can help them both now and in the future.
Now, they may have just found their target, as Elliotte Friedman has reported that former No. 4 overall draft pick Bowen Byram has been potentially made available by the Buffalo Sabres, with GM Kevyn Adams reportedly 'gauging the market' on the incredibly talented young blue liner.
While it won't be cheap to acquire Byram, the talented young star had a career year in 2024/25, tallying 7 goals and 38 points in 82 games played, and at 23-years of age, the future ahead is incredibly bright for the former Colorado Avalanche star.
On the Penguins blue line, the team are in desperate need of youth and star power with
Erik Karlsson and Kris Letang both coming to the end of their careers, and in Byram, the team could find a player that anchors their blue line for the next generation.
Ultimately, it's likely that Dubas and the front office will be in on Byram, and while there will be plenty of competition, if they could land him, it may be the key to unlocking the potential of the future for this organization.
