Sidney Crosby Gets Honest About His Future: "Time Is Running Out"
Despite still playing at a high level into his late 30s, Pittsburgh Penguins captain and future Hall of Famer Sidney Crosby knows that he won't be playing forever.
Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has accomplished nearly everything that an NHL player could ever dream of.
He's won multiple Stanley Cups, set multiple team records, and is guaranteed a spot in the Hockey Hall of Fame not long after his playing career comes to a close.
But on that subject, Crosby isn't getting any younger at age 37 and it won't be long before he eventually does decide to hang up the skates for good.
Currently playing with the Canadian squad at the 2025 IIHF World Championships, Crosby knows he won't have too many more chances to represent his country on the world stage at this point in his playing career.
At my age, it's not too often you get the opportunity to keep playing in tournaments like this, represent Canada, be part of this group. It's more about not having many chances to do this and trying to take advantage.
Crosby is 3rd on Canada in points with 11 (4G, 7A) and 5th overall among all players participating in the World Championships.
With the Penguins this year, he scored 91 points (33G, 58A) though the Penguins missed the playoffs for the 3rd straight season, the longest drought of his NHL career.
He's now under contract for another 2 years with his customary AAV (average annual value) of $8.7 million. Will he decide to call it a career at the conclusion of his deal?
