Macklin Celebrini is one of the brightest young stars in the NHL, and now, Nathan MacKinnon has suggested he may have a shot at Team Canada's Olympic squad.
Team Canada is on pace for yet another gold medal at the 2025 IIHF World Championship, and while the team is loaded with stars led by Nathan MacKinnon and Sidney Crosby, they've got some great play out of the young names on their roster thus far.
The standout is of course Macklin Celebrini, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, and after being a Calder Trophy finalist, he's shown that he's already one of the brightest young stars in the NHL.
That has translated to the international game as well, as the 18-year old has impressed his teammates, with MacKinnon suggesting in his latest comments that Celebrini could be in with a shot at making the 2026 Olympic Games squad.
He is miles ahead of where I was at 18 mentally... I think with a good first half he's going to have a really good chance at the Olympic team.
That's incredibly high praise from a multi-time Hart Trophy winner that was key to Team Canada's victory at the Four Nations earlier this year, and with the Olympic Games set for February of 2026, Canada will look to land another gold medal.
It's not going to be easy for Celebrini to land that spot, as the likes of Mark Scheifele, Nazem Kadri and so many others already missed out on selection, but with their core of Crosby, MacKinnon and Marchand all getting older, this would be the perfect opportunity for some young names.
Now, we will just wait and see if Celebrini can build on an impressive rookie campaign, and with the likes of Connor Bedard also thriving at the NHL, we could see plenty of youth in the Olympics squad.
