The Toronto Maple Leafs faced a tough decision yesterday, waiving struggling goaltender Ilya Samsonov after a challenging performance against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Despite their efforts to help Samsonov find his form, the move became inevitable.

With Samsonov on waivers, the Maple Leafs had to address their goaltending situation. Joseph Woll's injury and Martin Jones already in the NHL left them with no choice but to turn to a rookie.

This morning, General Manager Brad Treliving confirmed the recall of Dennis Hildeby from the Toronto Marlies with the announcement.

The @MapleLeafs have recalled G Dennis Hildeby from the @TorontoMarlies.

Hildeby, having played 15 games with the Marlies this season, boasts a record of 7-5-3, a GAA of 2.20, and a .919 save percentage. Last season, he played professionally in Sweden before making the transition to North America. The Maple Leafs hope Hildeby's positive trajectory continues, providing stability until Joseph Woll's return.

The 22-year-old is expected to start against the Anaheim Ducks as the Leafs embark on their Western Conference road trip.
