Vancouver Canucks grant player permission to find his own trade
In an attempt to move a previously highly regarded prospect, the Vancouver Canucks have extended their reach, even contacting Dan Millstein to facilitate a deal.
This summer, the Vancouver Canucks plan to trade forward
Ilya Mikheyev in order to free up more cap space. The Canucks general manager, Patrik Allvin, has decided to take a different tack in trying to get Mikheyev off the roster because it seems that the market isn't fond of the quick Russian.
Rick Dhaliwal of Vancouver Athletics has learned that Dan Millstein, Mikheyev's agent, has been granted authorization to assist in arranging a trade.
Mikheyev encountered difficulties in his first season with the Canucks due to an ACL injury that prevented him from playing in about half of the 2022–2023 season and postponed his 2023–2024 campaign. In 78 games during his sophomore campaign with Vancouver, he had 31 points and 11 goals. During the playoffs, he played in 11 games and scored 0 goals, which was a very disappointing performance considering his decreased ice time of 12:06.
Teams are requesting that Vancouver include a "sweetener" in any agreement to acquire Mikheyev, according to insider Frank Seravalii. The Canucks are not willing to do this at this time.
«Teams are asking the Canucks to attach an asset to Mikheyev to move him, something they are balking at – saying that it takes a full year to recover from ACL repair, and Mikheyev should be much better next season,»
Seravalli revealed.
Purchasing Mikheyev's contract outright is an additional choice. That would result in a cap penalty that CapFriendly estimates would be between $1.15 million and $2.15 million per year for the following four seasons. Ultimately, I believe that Canucks general manager Patrick Allvin will assess the situation and ultimately agree to the demand for sweeteners in order to get out of Mikheyev's contract.
