New Penguin Alex Alexeyev Shares Hilarious Story About Alex Ovechkin
Alex Alexeyev was in attendance for Alex Ovechkin's history making goal, and now he's revealed how that night unfolded for he and other healthy scratch players.
Last season, there were many fantastic stories around the National Hockey League, but none were bigger than Alex Ovechkin's pursuit of Wayne Gretzky's all-time NHL goal scoring record.
He got to that point in a game played against the New York Islanders on the road, and after he scored the historic goal, the entire arena erupted as Gretzky, his family and the Commissioner of the NHL all paused the game to celebrate the incredible moment.

However, not everyone got to see the goal up close and personal like that, as new Pittsburgh Penguin Alex Alexeyev reveals how he and other healthy scratches watched the game from the gym, rushing to get to the arena floor when it officially happened.
"I had just started eating a sandwich, drinking water, and then he scored.
My mouth was full, and everyone was shouting, 'Run, run!'"

Unfortunately for Alexeyev, he didn't get to see the goal unfold, but when he saw it on TV, he and others were forced to run to arena level to get there, with Alexeyev having his mouth full as he looked to get a glimpse of Ovi and celebrate with his superstar captain.
Ultimately, it was an incredible moment for Ovechkin, Capitals teammates and everyone around the National Hockey League, and for Alexeyev, he'll always have a unique memory of that night as he got to celebrate with Ovechkin after rushing to get there for the celebration.
