Penguins GM Kyle Dubas Praised By Analysts for Moves With the Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs have made some big decisions in their front office in recent years, but perhaps the biggest risk of all was moving on from Lou Lamoriello in 2018 for the young and inexperienced Kyle Dubas.

Since then, he's moved on to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and as a result, the very passionate Maple Leafs fanbase has had plenty of criticism for the now 39-year old, but looking back, his moves are to be applauded, with some fans stating that he will be missed upon leaving.

One of the most polarizing parts of Dubas' tenure in Toronto was his handling of the Core Four, and while the trio of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander, all home grown stars couldn't take the team to the Stanley Cup Finals, they've led the team to a very successful period in the teams history.

Now, The Hockey Writers have taken a look back on his tenure, and specifically for his handling of all four pieces in the Core Four, he's been given plenty of praise for the risk he took to give them big money deals with no-trade clauses involved.

Unfortunately for Toronto, things never quite worked out with Mitch Marner departing for the Golden Knights this off-season, but for the identity that Dubas built with this team and the organization by bringing the modern analytics to the way they conduct business, he deserves plenty of praise, with optimism for the future in Pittsburgh as a result.
