Winnipeg Jets Owner Addresses Worries About Possible Team Relocation
The decline in attendance at Winnipeg Jets games has sparked concerns about the team's future in the city.
Mark Chipman, the Executive Chair of True North Sports & Entertainment, which owns the Jets, recently responded to these worries in an interview with Darren Dreger of TSN.
The Jets have experienced a significant drop in attendance this season, with just over 11,000 fans attending the team's first two games. Dreger didn't beat around the bush and asked Chipman if fans should be worried about a possible relocation.
Dreger: "Is there any real threat of a sale, or relocation if this can't get turned around?"
Chipman: "No"
Considering that Winnipeg once lost its NHL team to Phoenix in 1996, Chipman acknowledged the concerns but reassured fans by saying, "not on our watch."
While the commitment is clear, Chipman also acknowledged the financial realities faced by True North Sports & Entertainment, emphasizing that, like any investment group, they won't sustain losses indefinitely without taking action.
Fans will be watching closely as the team and ownership work to address the attendance challenges and secure the Jets' future in Winnipeg.
